SmartGroove is committed to fair billing. This Refund Policy explains when and how you can request a refund. Refunds are processed by LemonSqueezy, our Merchant of Record, in coordination with SmartGroove.
1. The Free Tier Is Your Trial
The Free tier gives you the full SmartGroove DAW — recording, arrangement, MIDI editing, plugin hosting, and export — indefinitely with no card required. The Free tier excludes AI features that consume Credits, but otherwise lets you fully evaluate SmartGroove before paying. There is no separate time-limited trial of paid plans.
2. EU / EEA / UK Statutory Cooling-Off Period
If you are a consumer resident in the European Union, the European Economic Area, or the United Kingdom, you have a statutory right to withdraw from your subscription within fourteen (14) days of purchase without giving any reason, and to receive a full refund. To exercise this right, contact us at [email protected] or use the LemonSqueezy customer portal within the fourteen-day window.
Note on AI Credit consumption. Where you have begun using the AI features during the cooling-off period, you expressly agree that performance of the service has commenced and that your right of withdrawal is reduced by an amount proportionate to the Credits already consumed at the time you exercise withdrawal (Art. 16(a) Directive 2011/83/EU, or equivalent UK provision). We will not charge for unconsumed Credits or unused portion of the billing period.
3. Discretionary Refunds (Outside the Cooling-Off Period)
For users not covered by §2, and outside the fourteen-day window, we consider refund requests on a case-by-case basis. We typically grant refunds when:
- SmartGroove or one of its services suffered an outage that materially prevented you from using paid features.
- You were charged for a plan you did not intend to subscribe to (for example, you intended to cancel before renewal but missed the date by a small margin).
- An AI feature failed in a way that consumed Credits without producing usable output, beyond the automatic Credit-reversal that EULA §5(e) provides for proxy and upstream errors.
Refund decisions outside §2 are at SmartGroove's reasonable discretion.
4. Annual Plan Refunds
Annual subscriptions are discounted (17% off the equivalent monthly price) in exchange for the longer commitment. If you cancel an annual plan mid-term and are not covered by the §2 cooling-off period, we may, at our discretion, refund the unused portion of the annual fee on a pro-rated monthly basis, less any AI Credits already consumed. Pro-rated refunds, when granted, are calculated from the date of your refund request, not the date of cancellation.
5. Used AI Credits Are Non-Refundable
Credits consumed by AI features (chat, generation, AI-assisted arrangement) are non-refundable, regardless of whether you are within the cooling-off period or requesting a discretionary refund. Where a refund is granted, it covers unconsumed subscription value — not Credits you have already spent.
6. How to Request a Refund
- Write to [email protected] with the subject line "REFUND REQUEST".
- Include the email address associated with your SmartGroove account, your LemonSqueezy order number (visible in your purchase-confirmation email), and a brief description of the reason for the request.
- We will respond within five (5) business days at Beta scale. Approved refunds are issued by LemonSqueezy and typically appear on your original payment method within 5–10 business days.
7. Cancellation Without Refund
You can cancel any subscription at any time from Settings → Account inside SmartGroove or from the LemonSqueezy customer portal. Cancellation stops future billing immediately and reverts you to the Free tier at the end of the current billing period. Cancellation alone does not entitle you to a refund of the current period; use the refund process above if a refund is also required.
8. Chargebacks
Please contact us before initiating a chargeback — we'd much rather solve the underlying issue than dispute a card charge. Initiating a chargeback for a charge you actually owe, without first attempting to resolve the dispute with us, may result in account suspension or permanent termination per our Acceptable Use Policy.
