SmartGroove is a live-looping DAW: capture loops on the fly in the Looper view, then build a full song in the Arrangement view. The AI assistant can drive most of these actions for you — just describe what you want.
Creating your first loop
- Pick an audio input in a track’s input dropdown and arm the track (Shift + the track number, or click the arm button).
- Press R to start recording. The first loop you record sets the master loop length.
- Press R again (or Space) to stop. The loop plays back immediately and repeats.
Keep the transport running while you record — recording is synced to the bar so loops line up automatically.
Adding more tracks
Each track is an independent looper lane with its own input, volume, pan, mute, solo and insert effects. Add a track from the track area, then arm it and record as above. Stack several tracks to build a layered groove, or overdub multiple passes onto a single track.
Recording MIDI
Add a MIDI track — it listens to all connected MIDI inputs by default, and its green dot flashes when a note arrives. Arm it and press record in the Transport Bar to capture your keyboard. Double-click the captured clip to edit notes in the Piano Roll (P).
The Hardware Zone
The pedal-style controls at the bottom of the Looper view work like a hardware loop station: record, play, overdub and stop per track. Right-click any of them and choose Learn MIDI Control, then press a pad or footswitch on your controller to map it instantly — perfect for hands-free live looping.
Mixing basics
Drag the faders and pan knobs in the mixer, or click the dB / pan readout to type an exact value. Route a track to a group bus via its “Out” dropdown — groups get their own fader and insert chain, so related tracks can be shaped together.
Switching between Looper and Arrangement
Press Tab to toggle between the Looper view (live capture) and the Arrangement view (timeline editing). Loops you capture in the Looper become clips you can place, copy and edit on the Arrangement timeline.
Saving your project
Save your project to keep tracks, clips, plugins and automation together. Saved projects reopen exactly as you left them. Audio you import or generate is stored with the project so it travels with the file.
Using the AI assistant
Open the chat panel and describe what you want in plain language — for example “add a warm pad on a new track” or “make the vocal less harsh”. The assistant plans the steps and performs the DAW actions for you. Composition requests (chords, melodies, grooves) are guided by built-in music-theory knowledge, and mixing requests draw on production recipes for the stock plugins. You can also talk instead of typing: hold Shift + A for push-to-talk voice input. The chat panel is docked on the right in the Looper view; drag its divider to resize it, or pop it out as a floating window.
